Bipartisanship goes to the dogs in RVA

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

With all the bickering on Capitol Hill, there was still a bit of bipartisanship playing out on social media in Richmond.

The Communications Director for Governor Bob McDonnell took to Twitter when his dog, Blue, got away from him during a run. About an hour after Tucker Martin's post, the Political Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia found the dog.

Clark Mercer even had some fun with the discovery, posting a picture of Blue with a Terry McAuliffe campaign sticker.

"I was going to an event in Powhatan later so I had some bumper stickers and some literature and thought it would be a pretty good one to take," explained Mercer. "Blue was pretty tired when I saw him he didn't want to run anymore and wanted to just get into someone's car."

The two men met for the first time Sunday.

"It's very bipartisan. Blue has always taken great pains to stay non-partisan himself, he may get his dog food based on a political salary, but he's completely non-partisan," said Martin. "I can't say enough good things about Clark, it's such a nice thing to do, it's just a generous thing to do."

Martin later posted to Twitter, "Washington pay attention. A Dem just found an R's dog."
To which Clark replied, "Blue has a great name."
