EBT users back in business after technical issues shutdown system

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - People relying on government food stamps in seventeen states, including some here in the CSRA, were coming up short at the register Saturday. Xerox, the company that handles the benefits, said a technical issue caused EBT cards not to work.

A local Food Lion said it was a busy day of putting back groceries, with many customers left wondering how they were going to put food on the table. Checkers there said they had three or four full baskets of food to put back, because people had no way to pay for it.

The company stated this was in no way tied to the partial government shutdown. They have since issued a statement saying the machines are working again.

They were asking retailers to use its manual system, which would only allow snap customers to spend up to 50 dollars until the problem was fixed.
