Teen dies after truck crashes into go-kart

EVANS, GA (WFXG) -

A 15-year-old boy is dead after a truck crashed into a go-kart Thursday afternoon, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Tyler J. Smith was sitting in a go-kart on the sidewalk near Hardy McManus Road and Woodruff Way when a Dodge Ram ran off the Road and struck the go-kart around noon, Capt. Steve Morris said.

Smith was airlifted to the hospital but died a short time later, Morris said.

The driver of the truck, Kenneth Gill, 58, of North Augusta, is charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, Morris said.
