PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Phoenix real estate agent is in jail after police said she tried to pawn rings taken from a home she had shown to potential buyers.

The victim told police that jewelry valued at $15,000 was missing from her house after it was shown to the buyers.

Angela Ortiz, 32, had shown the house near 40th Street and Union Hills Drive on June 24 and was interviewed by Phoenix police two days later, said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Ortiz told police she was not aware the jewelry had been taken and denied any involvement.

But on July 18, Ortiz walked into a pawn shop near Shea Boulevard and Scottsdale Road and tried to trade a Chanel ring and two other rings for a diamond ring, Martos said.

A serial number on the Chanel ring matched that of one of the 44-year-old victim's rings, Martos said.

Police identified Ortiz as the real estate agent at the house in June and also uncovered a lengthy pawn record, indicating potential for other victims, Martos said.

Police on Wednesday tracked down Ortiz in Maricopa and she tried to run from officers before she was taken into custody, Martos said.

Ortiz gave officers a fake name, but they found her valid Arizona driver's license and confirmed her identity.

Ortiz was booked into jail for theft, trafficking in stolen property and refusing to provide her true name to officers, Martos said.

Detectives said anyone believed to be a victim of this suspect should contact Phoenix police.
