A man was busted for heroin and his third drunk driving offense in Ashtabula County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was conducting motor vehicle inspection roadside checks on U.S. 20 on September 26.
Just before noon, a trooper flagged a 1992 Pontiac Firebird over for a random roadside inspection. During interaction with the driver, he admitted to not having a valid driver license.
The trooper then noticed a black case lying on the driver seat containing a hypodermic needle filled with heroin and a spoon with residue. During an administrative inventory of the vehicle, the trooper discovered a gram of methamphetamine on the vehicle floor board area.
The driver, Erich Dietrich, 26, of Ashtabula, was charged with possession of heroin and methamphetamine, possession drug instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dietrich was also charged with his third OVI offense.
