The new Walmart Neighborhood Market opens in Martinez Wednesday morning.
The store, located at 3851 Evans to Locks Road in the Village at Fury's Ferry shopping center, is one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter but offers a full grocery department and pharmacy services.
Customers can shop at the store 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"I'm delighted to introduce this store - the first of its kind in our area - to Martinez," Store Manager Timothy Miller said. "It will bring a new and exciting shopping experience for people who want Walmart prices in an easy and convenient smaller store."
The store – one of 250 neighborhood markets across the nation - also brings 95 full- and part-time jobs to the area.
"Walmart has been a wonderful partner in many activities for Columbia County, and we are very happy to see their expansion," said Ron Cross, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners. "The current stores and the new Walmart Neighborhood Market give our residents great opportunities for better products at lower prices."
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the store at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Miller also invites residents to "A Big Family Welcome" from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the store. The event will include family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples.
