Off-duty police officer dies in crash while fleeing from law enforcement
JENKINS COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -
A Twin City police officer died in a crash Friday night while fleeing from law enforcement, according to Georgia State Patrol.
Dillon Gay, 20, was off duty when he crashed on Highway 25 in Millen during the chase, according to the Georgia State Highway Patrol. Gay was ejected from the truck and died from his injuries.
The chase started in Jenkins County around 6:30 p.m., according to the Jenkins County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were searching for a missing man in Millen when Gay came driving by at a high rate of speed and forced some cars off the road.
Georgia State Patrol said Gay was driving about 90 mph through the town. A trooper was able to force Gay off the road, causing him to crash.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
Troopers say Gay worked for the Twin City Police Department for about three months.
