'Aiken Together' announces three big projects

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A Capital Campaign in Aiken announced Tuesday it's aiming to raise 2.9 million dollars over five years, without using any tax payer money.

The group, 'Aiken Together', said they want to finish projects at The Center for African-American History, Art and Culture, The Aiken Visitors Center and Train Museum and the proposed Savannah River Site Heritage Center.

Resident Walt Kubilius said he knows the donations will mean more than fixed up buildings for Aiken.

"We can use every kind of tourist attraction there is and the more diverse the attractions are, the better it is for everybody."

Officials said work began on old dining cars in 2010. They were restored on the outside, but now need polish on the outside.
