WSFA 12 News is issuing a clarification about a story we shared Monday.
We reported that Montgomery's 908th Airlift Wing shipped out cargo Monday that's bound for the Dominican Republic where it will help those in need. The assortment of goods that are being sent were raised by charities.
While the 908th had a hand in helping, the plane and crew that flew the mission were based out of Dyess Air Force Base in Texas.
The 908th at Maxwell assisted by putting the cargo together, prepared the cargo and loaded it onto the 317th's plane.
The shipment is made possible through the Denton Amendment, legislation that allows for the use of government aircraft to take goods to an impoverished country as part of humanitarian efforts.
Because there was such an outpouring of donations, the C130 that is being used will have to make two trips.
The Dominican Republic is an island nation in the Caribbean with an estimated population of 10 million.
