Bikes plus other equipment stolen from Tempe triathlon

TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

As the LifeTime Tri Tempe race was happening at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe Sunday morning thieves were busy stealing bikes and other miscellaneous equipment, according to the Tempe Police Department.

The LifeTime Tri Tempe event held Sunday is the first fall race of six events for The Healthy Way of Life Company. Other events will include the sprint, international, relay, first timer waves, plus the 2013 USA Paratriathlon Southwest Regional Championships.

During the triathlon at Tempe Beach Park, two bikes, one valued at $4,000 and the second valued at $6,000, were stolen from the transition area of the race, according to the Tempe Police Department. In addition to the bikes there was at least one report of other miscellaneous race equipment stolen.

The Tempe police are still investigating the thefts and have no further information at this time.
