PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Goodyear home suffered extensive damage during a fire early Monday morning.

Firefighters were able to quickly quell the flames and keep it from spreading to nearby homes, said Goodyear Fire Capt. Nick Lyons.

No one was home at the time of the fire about 4 a.m., Lyons said.

Firefighters saw flames and a thick column of smoke coming from a bedroom of the single-story house near Litchfield Road and Western Avenue.

He said the damage was bad enough the occupants would probably have to see alternate housing. He said the house's residents had not been contacted.

No one was injured and the cause had not been determined Lyons said.
