Update: RCSO says McDowell Street and Murphy Street are safe September 22, 2013 at 11:20 PM EST - Updated July 21 at 5:14 AM Update: The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said the area of McDowell Street and Murphy Street has been rendered safe and the roads are open. Original: Officials with several agencies were called out downtown Augusta around 7:15 to investigate a suspicious package, according the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say witnesses said two people dropped on the package around McDowell Street and Murphy Street and left. The area is closed and evacuated. The Fire Department and Richmond County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad are on the scene. There are no description of the people or their vehicle at this time.
