OBERLIN, OH (WOIO) -

The Oberlin City Council voted Monday night so their local gun ordinance won't conflict with Ohio's state law.

The lines were drawn in a debate over gun control in Ohio and the battlefield is a Oberlin city park where children play.

Many gun owners were upset at a local ordinance prohibiting guns in public parks.

Some showed up at Oberlin's Park Street Park with their guns to protest. Gun owners wanted the city of Oberlin to comply with state law or face a potential lawsuit.

"My wife and I, like we do every weekend, take our kids to the park and like we do every weekend we carry our fire arms," says one gun owner.

An opponent to the latest push says, "Guns in public is one thing, guns in a place designed for small children to play is another thing. This is a playground it is designed for people to play. Guns are not toys."

City Council voted four-to-three in favor of an ordinance allowing guns in city parks.

Several city council members said it was more practical to be in compliance with state law.
