He's back! Biggest, baddest gator returns to Newport

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) -

Where can you find an 800-pound, 14-foot long alligator named Mighty Mike in the Tri-State? Visit the Newport Aquarium beginning Thursday.

Mighty Mike returned to his home on Wednesday night after visiting Newport's sister aquarium in Camden, N.J.

Described as the "biggest, baddest alligator on display outside of Florida," aquarium officials say Mighty Mike's head is the size of a coffee table.

"[Mighty Mike] is over 14 feet long and 800 pounds. He's just a big puppy-dog," said Ric Urban, an Animal Ambassador at the Newport Aquarium. "He's here to stay and we've got him right here at the Newport Aquarium."

Guests will get eye-to-eye with the massive alligator during his return to the aquarium's Gator Alley Exhibit.

"We've received Facebook posts, Tweets, mail and phone calls asking for Mighty Mike to return. We are so happy Mighty Mike is home," said Lynn Margason, Newport Aquarium Marketing Director.

As part of the homecoming celebration for Mighty Mike, the Newport Aquarium is offering a special admission price for children. Kids get in for $5 each with each adult paying full price, Sundays through Fridays.

The offer is available for up to four kids, ages 2-12 and is available online only from September 23 through October 18. Visit www.newportaquarium.com for hours and pricing.
