NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) - A North Augusta woman is charged with reckless conduct after deputies say she injected a snack cake with a harmful substance and gave it to her pregnant professor.
Richmond County deputies arrested Diane Ambrose, 44, Wednesday after they say she gave her professor at Virginia College the tainted snack cake.
The professor got sick with lower intestinal problems about two weeks ago, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office incident report. She was 12 weeks pregnant at the time and started having complications with her pregnancy the next day.
She went to the doctor, who told her she had become at a high risk for a miscarriage, according to the report.
The professor didn't realize the snack cake was what made her sick until another student came to her Wednesday and told her what Ambrose said, according to the report.
The student said Ambrose told her she injected the snack cake with a foreign substance that would cause her professor to be on the toilet all day but would not harm her child, according to the report.
