Salvation Army of Augusta seeks car donations

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The Salvation Army of Augusta is looking for car donations for its upcoming auto auction that funds the local Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Program.

"We look at each car as a life that can be saved," said Major Tony Perez, Augusta Area Commander. "We currently have 45 vehicles in the lot, but we're hoping for 65."

With 80 men going through the free, 9-month program every year, the Salvation Army says lives are changed on a regular basis. Marty, a current program participant, likens the program to a life preserver thrown to someone who is drowning. Marty credits the program for keeping him sober, and for giving him food, shelter and a chance to make his life better.

The Salvation Army asks that anyone wanting to donate a used car, truck, boat, or RV call the Auto Auction Coordinator at 706-434-3178.

This year, each person who donates a vehicle will receive a free, three-month Individual Gold Membership to The Salvation Army Kroc Center. Donations are tax-deductible and free pick-up is available. Vehicles do not have to be running to be donated.

The Auto Auction is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 5. For more information, call or visit
