PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The trial of a Pittsfield ice cream truck owner charged with trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife has been tentatively set for March.
Police say 28-year-old Recep Sarikcioglu (rej-EP' sah-REEK'-chee-OG'-loo) had been charged with assaulting his estranged wife in May, then allegedly violated a restraining order, which landed him in jail. Prosecutors said while in jail, he offered another inmate $10,000 to either cut the brakes on his wife's car or tamper with the natural gas line at her home. The other inmate told police.
The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1ecEYI7 ) reports his attorney says his client has no criminal record, that the alleged victim had no physical injuries and that the informant wife was unreliable. He is free on $25,000 bail.
