Commission moves ahead with Traffic Violations Bureau

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Richmond County Commission voted 'yes' to moving forward on a State Traffic Violations Bureau Monday.

Officials say currently, every person charged with a traffic offense has to appear in court, but most traffic offenders don't consider their violations a criminal offense.

Officials say creating a traffic division in the State Court of Richmond County would be practical and feasible.

Richard Slaby, Chief Judge of State Court, thinks it would stream line the court system and save money. He said research shows fines will be reduced by at least 50 dollars.
