September is National Preparedness month and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Verizon Wireless have teamed up to see that Georgians are prepared.
It's through a program called Ready Georgia but it's not just another fancy app on your smart phone. It actually helps you prepare for emergencies.
"You're able to keep in contact, know ahead and be ready what to do in case of emergency," said George Chapel, a data sales consultant for Verizon.
The app is also a little more involved in that it places other apps and programs all in one place and you don't even have to understand how it all works.
"Whether it's anywhere from a weather, or storm alert, or where it's an amber alert, they can get they can get that right on their device, without having to know how to work all the different apps," Chapel said.
Chapel said many people don't realize the extent their phones can help them. There are many apps to assist in emergency situations, that's why he has been giving presentations for Ready Georgia today in the Verizon Wireless at the Augusta Exchange.
Beyond the app, Chapel showed a host of other products too, like a battery pack, that can help in those time of need.
