Augusta Commission approves controversial contract

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Augusta Commissioners voted Tuesday night to continue using the same probation service that has been the subject of controversy.

For the next year, the State Court of Richmond County will continue to work with Sentinel Probation Services.

District Seven Commissioner Donnie Smith thinks his colleagues shouldn't have approved the contract because the company is facing numerous lawsuits.

"There are 10 lawsuits out there concerning Sentinel's conduct. There is a grand jury investigation in Dekalb County involving Sentinel," he said.

The State Court refused to comment about the lawsuits; they will decide later if they will continue to work with Sentinel.
