Ft. Benning Sledgehammer Soldier dies in motorcycle accident

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Fort Benning officials have confirmed that the motorcyclist who died in an accident on Hwy 165 yesterday was 31-year-old SGT Jose Angel Jimenez, Jr. from the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team (3rd ABCT).

STG Jimenez was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Jimenez was killed when the 2006 Honda CBR 1000 he was operating collided with a 1991 Freightliner driven by Harold Huckeba, 59, of Hogansville, Ga.

The crash occurred just after 9 a.m. on August 29, 2013. The location was on Alabama 165 about seven miles south of Phenix City.

SGT Jimenez's awards and decorations include the Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal-Campaign Star (2), National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (5), and Army Commendation Medal (3).

The 3rd ABCT released a statement on August, 30, 2013, saying, "This accident is tragic, and our heartfelt condolences go out to SGT Jimenez's family and friends."
