Officials at Six Flags New England announced that they will build the world's tallest swing ride at the Agawam theme park during a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday afternoon.
The new ride will be called the New England SkyScreamer and it will tower over 400 feet in the air.
"This is a world record breaker and we're so proud to have it right here in Agawam, Massachusetts creating this new landmark for New England," said Jennifer McGrath, communications manager at Six Flags New England."It's a swing ride concept so guests will fly up this attraction and spin round and round reaching speeds of 35 mph."
The ride has been two years in the making.
"You will be able to probably see Canada from here, so it will be a big, big deal," said John Winkler, park president of Six Flags New England.
And, many kids attending the park Thursday told CBS 3 they can't wait to try out the new ride.
"I think it's really cool," said 11-year-old Bijan Vanadji.
"I'm pretty excited because I really want to ride it," said 11-year-old Alex Kavrakis.
Agawam's mayor says he's excited because the park's newest addition will likely serve as an economic driver.
"I think it attracts people," said Agawam Mayor Richard Cohen. "New rides are something that stimulates the economy, not just here in Agawam and for the park, but throughout the entire region."
The new ride is expected to open in the summer of 2014.
