Gov. Haley proclaims "Let Freedom Ring Day" to honor MLK

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – Governor Nikki Haley will pronounce Wednesday that August 28 will be designated "Let Freedom Ring Day"  in recognition of American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The proclamation  honors Dr. King, Jr. for his dedication to improving American society by promoting freedom, justice and equal opportunity for all people.

The proclamation comes as August 28 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's celebrated and iconic "I Have a Dream" speech during the March on Washington for jobs and freedom in 1963.

Governor Haley encourages South Carolinians to honor the event by ringing bells across the state Wednesday at 3 p.m.
