New retirement resort to come to Columbia Co.

EVANS, GA (WFXG) - There's a new guy in town.

Resort Lifestyle Communities broke ground on their senior resort in Columbia County Wednesday.

"Evans just had a lot of appeal to us from," said Jeff Cunningham, director of sales and marketing for the company. "It's a great location."

Stretching 189,000 square feet, the community will be in the Marshall Square near Evans Towne Center.

"The original vision for this property was a mixed-use town center development that included residential living. The senior community fit perfectly here for what we had envisioned here," Donald Lawrence, a representative of the Marshall Square, said.

The complex set to open next August will cost $27 million dollars. It will have 134 apartments ranging from studios to 3 bedrooms.

Month-to-month rent for these suites will provide all-inclusive services including freedom style dining, paid utilities, 24/7 concierge services, housekeeping and transportation.

"To have a quality residential area here with senior citizens, is a great thing to have because most of them have expendable income," said Ron Cross, chairman of the Columbia County Commission.

There will be amenities like a bank, pharmacy, and even a salon that the community will be able to use.
