Even John McCain can't escape call of jury duty

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Even a long-serving U.S. senator can't avoid the obligation of reporting for jury duty.

Sen. John McCain alerted his Twitter followers (@SenJohnMcCain) that he recently received his summons for jury duty at Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix:

Reporting for #juryduty this morning at the Maricopa County Superior Court in #Phoenix - let's see if I'm picked!

McCain, the Republican nominee for president in 2008 who has served Arizona in the U.S. Senate since 1986, kept his followers updated with this tweet just after noon:

Not selected for this jury trial, but may need to report back this afternoon #juryduty

Then, about an hour later, McCain knew his fate:

Got word I'm done with #juryduty today - I appreciate the Court staff's dedicated work & all #Arizonans who serve on our juries

He was scheduled to host a roundtable discussion with the Arizona and Phoenix chambers of commerce at 2 p.m. at the Arizona Chamber of Commerce building,  at 3200 N. Central Ave.
