Officers beefing up patrols at First Friday

RICHMOND COUNTY (WFXG) -

Barbara Brown and her team were busy setting up on Broad Street for First Friday.

But without a little extra security, Brown says they wouldn't have been.

"I know we wouldn't be out here without the officers."

30 of them hit the streets, six volunteering their time to make sure a repeat of violence seen in 2012 doesn't happen again.

Colonel Robert Partain said, "A couple of us will be on bikes, some of us will be in cars, others on motorcycles."

But it's not the early hours he's worried about.

"After the First Friday celebration is when there are sometimes problems. It has only happened on occasion and that's why we beef up patrols."
