Job fair helping veterans and civilians find work

Fort Gordon, GA (WFXG) -

Christopher Drumming went to the State Agency Job fair, looking for work.

"It's actually very surprising. I thought I'd just be getting information, but I guess I just got info recently that I'll be offered a position."

Drumming will work as a correctional officer with the Georgia Correctional Facility, but he didn't just get the job.

Drumming got an idea of what he might be doing at it with a demonstration.

Officials say it came about after concerns over unemployment.

Georgia Department of Corrections Operations Manager Gary Bell said, "I approached the Georgia Department of Corrections concerned about the high number of veterans returning back from duty so the first military job fair was created. It was such a success we decided to continue"

A success for people like Drumming, too.

"I guess it'll take a minute for it to soak in, but soon I'll be rejoicing."
