A Phoenix-based architect has designed a unique model home that is now the most expensive residential listing in Arizona history.
Priced at $30 million, the Paradise Valley location offers panoramic views both to the north and south.
Luxury realtor Robert Joffe has listed the almost nine-acre property alone for $3 million. He has marketed the property for close to a year but was not getting much attention.
Joffe turned to architect Nick Tsontakis to come up with an eye-catching design that would bring attention to the property.
As he worked, Tsontakis noticed the resemblance to a sea creature.
"This is a manta ray, and really, if you look at it from the top, it looks like it's swimming away, swimming on top of the mountain," says Tsontakis.
The design is referred to as organic. It is unique because it incorporates and envelops the ridge of Mummy Mountain into the design.
"It's not hard-edge, hard-line. It's contemporary. It's soft. It's livable," says Tsontakis.
"When he brought it to us, we were absolutely blown away, amazed," says Joffe.
The interior of the home has not been designed, but includes more than 16,000 square feet. A tunnel dug inside the mountain would connect the north and south wings of the home.
The design includes matching infinity pools, glass columns that support the patio, an eight-car garage and three levels of living and entertaining space.
"The phone is actually ringing quite a bit. We are having activity. I have someone actually who is fairly interested right now," says Joffe.
The second-most expensive real estate listing in Arizona includes a house that has actually been built. It is a palatial estate in Scottsdale listed for $24.5 million
