    The Ohio Department of Health has declared a statewide community outbreak of hepatitis A after observing an increase in cases linked to certain risk factors. Ohio is reporting 79 hepatitis A cases associated with the outbreak so far this year, almost double the number of cases reported during all of last year. PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Moreand more people are avoiding calling 911 during medical emergencies and drivingto the hospitals themselves, but officials say that's the last thing theyshould do.

EMTparamedics are just as trained and capable when it comes to emergencies as thelocal hospital. Think of an ambulance as an ER on wheels. Everything inside isdesigned to save lives.

EMTsare often able to quickly arrive on scene and diagnose the emergency and bypassthe emergency room, getting you to a doctor faster.

"Wehave a number of people that show up on scene…getting a bunch of hands onpeople right away," said John Seiverth, assistant chief with Perrysburg Fireand Rescue.

Paramedicswant to remind everyone that every second counts during an emergency, andgetting in your car to drive to the hospital is the last thing you ever want todo during a medical emergency.
