HEPHZIBAH, GA (WFXG) -

A new facility at Diamond Lakes Regional Park is now open to the public. Monday morning city leaders unveiled the new multi-purpose court facility that includes three basketball courts. The facility is called the "Flex Court," transforming the courts for volleyball, badminton, pickle ball and a cross training and fitness facility.

The $425,000-project was paid for by the Special Purpose Local Option sales Tax (SPLOST VI) as approved by the Augusta Commission.

Commissioners said it will have a major impact on the community.

"I was here last night and there were 112 individuals out here amongst these three courts," said Commissioner Alvin Mason. "That's so huge because what that tells me is that there weren't out in the street gang-banging, breaking into homes, or any of these negative things that we hear with our youth."

The new facility is open from dawn to dusk.
