Update: Fatal shooting leaves one dead

Posted: Updated:

Racardo Jones says he was getting dressed to head to a club when he received some devastating news, Friday night.

"I got a phone call saying my brother just got shot but I thought they were just playing," Jones said."

But Jones would quickly learn, from Facebook, that his brother, Lamar King, 27, was in fact shot.

Richmond County deputies said King and another person were arguing outside their apartment on Fayetteville Drive. When things got heated, King was shot in the chest then rushed to GRU. He died shortly after.

The police said they have a person in custody but aren't releasing his name.

Jones, however, said he knows exactly who killed his brother.

"I just want to ask him one question. Why? Why? We were all out here just chilling, two days ago," Jones said.

Last month, I spoke with Jones about another shooting that happened in the area.

"The violence needs to stop," he said in that interview. "It needs to stop, today, because this black-on-black crime isn't going to get us nowhere but into the cemetery or in jail."

Today his predictions became true, hitting closer to home than he could ever imagine.

One Augusta man has died after being shot according to the Richmond County Sheriff's office.

Deputies responded to a call on Friday, July 26 around 11:50 pm at the 1800 block of Fayetteville Drive.

Lamar King, 27, was shot in the chest and transported to GRU, where he later died due to his injuries, deputies said.

Police said a man believed to be the shooter has been taken into custody and questioned by investigators.

No arrests have been made at this time.
