Make-A-Wish Georgia Grants 6000th Local Wish to Augusta-area Child

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Five-year-old Emerson May of Evans, Georgia, is living with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect in which the left ventricle of the heart is severely underdeveloped.  Because her condition is considered to be life-threatening, Emerson qualified for a wish experience from Make-A-Wish Georgia.

Emerson's heartfelt wish was to go see "Annie" on Broadway – a dream that she was excited to finally see come true.  She also wanted to explore the "big city" and see all that New York had to offer.  Her wish trip included a tour of New York City's most popular attractions, a visit to The Bronx Zoo, the American Girl Store and, of course, a VIP meet-and-greet with the cast of 'Annie' after witnessing the spectacular performance.

This wish experience marked Make-A-Wish Georgia's 6,000th wish granted in the local community.  Since 1995, the organization has been granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses in Georgia.  "We are incredibly excited to reach this milestone for our organization," said John J. Brennan, CEO of Make-A-Wish Georgia.  The wish experience is something that's more than just a "nice thing to do." It's truly transformational for our wish families.  When you see the experience from beginning to end, and how it impacts the child and the child's family, enabling them to fight the challenge they're facing, it's truly amazing."
