Volunteers replace stolen trees

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Volunteers from Regreen Springfield were at the Square One Center on King Street on Monday replacing trees that had been stolen.

Eight shrubs, including a dead one, were dug up and stolen from the school over a few days. Kimberley Lee, vice president of advancement, said the landscaping had been donated and had only been in place for a few months when the thieves hit.

Regreen Springfield saw reports of the theft and stepped in to help by donating new trees, mulch and labor. Lee said this type of reaction from the community was great and shows there are still good people in Springfield.

Arrowwood viburnum trees were planted to replace the arborvitae evergreens which were stolen. The trees will have bright flowers in the spring and berries in the fall. Lee said children at the daycare would help water the new trees.
