Man injured during Aiken County hit & run dies

Robert Brooks, 48, has died as a result of his injuries sustained during a hit & run crash on Pine Log Road.

He was aiding Catherine Bentley, who ran out of gas, when he was struck from behind by an SUV being driven by Sandra Huntington.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday in Newberry, SC.

A woman has been arrested in connection to an overnight hit & run crash in Aiken County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the collision happened around 12:30am on Pine Log Road at Storm Branch Road.

A moped carrying two people was traveling south on Pine Log when it was struck from behind.

Robert Brooke was driving the moped, while Catherine Bentley was the passenger. Both were rushed to Georgia Regents Medical Center; neither were wearing helmets.

The driver who hit them fled the scene, but was later identified and arrested.

Sandra Huntington was taken into custody at her Beech Island home. She was driving a 2011 Kia SUV when she struck the moped.

Huntington faces two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing great, bodily harm.
