The eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Interstate 10 have reopened after a tractor-trailer caught fire Thursday morning, stopping traffic in both directions near Quartzsite, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman.
The right westbound lane of I-10 was expected to remain blocked for an extended period, the spokesman said. The westbound lane is closed starting 31 miles east of the Arizona-California border. The eastbound lanes were closed beginning in Quartzsite.
Drivers in that area should consider delaying travel or using an alternate route.
Suggested alternate routes for westbound drivers are to exit at U.S. Highway 60 and take that highway until reaching State Route 72. Travel west on SR 72 and turn south on SR 95 to return to I-10 in Quartzsite.
