Suspect on the loose after armed robbery and shooting

AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

Blood stains mark Kent's Korner's gravel parking lot where a truck driver was shot late Tuesday night. Aiken County deputies say just before 11 p.m. on Highway 19 right off I-20, two truck drivers were parked, and talking by their trucks when they were approached by a man with a gun. He started barking orders to hand over their money and anything else they had on them at the time.

"The victim and the suspect got into an altercation to where the victim threw his coffee mug at him," said Capt. Eric Abdullah with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

That's when deputies say the suspect shot the trucker twice; once in the hip, the other in the shoulder. Witnesses say the suspect ran away. The other truck driver called 9-1-1, and the victim was rushed to the hospital.

Convenience store clerks nearby say this kind of violence is unusual in the area.

"I've been working here nearly six years, and it's not much like these kind of things happen around here. Once in a while it's happened around here," said Nick Singh, a store clerk at the Shell station across the street from Kent's Korner.

Clerks say they're a little shaken up after the shooting, and are looking forward to the suspect to be put behind bars.

Anyone with any information about this case, we encourage them to call the Sheriff's Office at (803)648-6811 OR Crime Stoppers with a tip or information at (888) CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
