Columbia Co. residents want drain system for stormy weather

Herbert Ledbetter said he was working in his garden when a massive storm hit his neighborhood.

"It started lighting and then the heavens opened and then the floods came and it just absolutely flooded," Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter lives by a creek near Rockdale Court, in Columbia County, and after receiving a tremendous amount of rain in such a short period of time, the creek overflowed.

"We've had some problems here with the storm," said Ledbetter. "Obviously storm and water damage."

Adding to Wednesday's damage, a gas leak.

While multiple crews worked hard to clean up the mess the storm made, some residents in the area said they wonder when more will be done to prevent this kind of damage from reoccurring.

"They're going to put a drain system to catch some of that water that is coming down the hill but in the meantime there's nothing containing it," Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter's neighbor lives on the hill. She she wasn't so lucky, as Ledbetter, who didn't have any damages to his home.

"When I came home, my downstairs was flooded and our garage was flooded," said Kathy Koch. "Because we're on a slant, everything just piled up in the backyard."

Columbia County said the gas leak has been contained but residents said they will continue to push for the drain system.
