PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A West Valley police department is turning to social media to help get wanted criminals off the streets.

The Peoria Police Department is placing posters in local stores that allow residents to take a picture on their smartphone of the QR code on the poster. The code will take the user to the department's Pinterest page to view the warrant list.

There are several warrant categories on the department's Pinterest page, including DUI, assault, domestic violence, and shoplifting. In each list there is a picture of the "wanted" person and a description of their charges.

People who have information on the whereabouts of the "wanted" person can just click on the person's picture and they are taken to the police department's tips page, which has several options for submitting the information, including anonymous tips.

The department worked for more than a month to build the special Pinterest page.

Those wanting to access the Pinterest page without using a smartphone can visit the  department's website at Peoriaaz.gov/wanted.
