HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Police have closed off two roads, including Gilead Road, as crews work to manage damage and flooding caused by Friday night's thunderstorms.

Firefighters say a section of Gilead Road, near Ervin Cook Road, is closed due to road damage.

The Huntersville Fire Department tweeted a message that a section of the roadway was sagging, after floodwaters receded.

Police also shut down McIllwaine Road, near Beatties Ford Road.

A tweet from Huntersville firefighters shows muddy waters flooding both sides of the roadway, as well as nearby grassy areas.

A few hours earlier, a Huntersville police cruiser was trapped on the same road. Another photo tweeted by Huntersville firefighters shows one of the town's bravest helping an officer get to safety.

Sam Furr Road was the site of major flooding hours earlier, as major thunderstorms swept through the town.

Firefighters say they rescued a total of four people inside three vehicles, stranded near the Northcross Drive intersection. They say no one was hurt.

The intersection was closed to traffic for about four hours.
