St. Vincent de Paul helping residents stay cool

Posted: Updated:
WEST END, OH (FOX19) -

A local organization is continuing their efforts to cool down the Tri-State this summer.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul gave out hundreds of fans on Wednesday to people in need in the West End of Cincinnati. The event was part of the non-profit's Summer Fan & Air Conditioning Drive.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there were 155 heat-related deaths in the U.S. in 2012, with more than half occurring in the home.

St. Vincent de Paul plans to give away 500 air conditioners and more than 800 fans throughout the summer. Anyone who didn't receive one from St. Vincent de Paul in 2012 is eligible for one this year.
