Richmond County teachers to use video games in lessons

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

This week nearly three dozen Richmond County kindergarten teachers are training to use new technology in the classrooms.

Georgia Regents University professors have developed a language and literacy DVD used to improve the vocabulary skills of 459 students in 31 Richmond County schools. The creation of the DVD is part of a $60,000 grant awarded to GRU. Soon the lessons will be available for parents and students to access online.

"Parents and kids can access it on a computer some X-boxes, Playstations, on a Nook, on a Kindle and their iPhones, and everybody wins," said Dr. Walter Evans, project director of the program.

Teachers will implement the technology starting the fall 2013 semester.
