Suspect arrested in stabbing at Scottsdale nightclub

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A suspect was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with a stabbing June 24 at a Scottsdale nightclub that left a man fighting for his life.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Gilbert resident, was taken into custody from the room he was staying in at the Sheraton Desert Oasis at 17700 N. Hayden Rd.

The suspect's name is being withheld. He was booked into jail on one count of aggravated assault.

The victim, a 34-year-old man, told police was heading down the stairs of Martini Ranch in Old Town Scottsdale about 1:50 a.m. when he was stabbed from behind.

Martini Ranch, at 7295 E. Stetson Dr., was the scene of a fatal stabbing in January.

Tyrice Thompson, a bouncer at Martini Ranch, died after he was stabbed during a fight in the bar's parking lot.

Ian MacDonald, 26, of Tempe, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in Thompson's death.

Police said Thompson, a father and former Arizona State University football player, was stabbed five times in the hip, back and arm and was taken off life support by his family Feb. 16.
