2 homes on 1 lot is growing trend in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two homes on one lot is becoming a more familiar sight around Metro Nashville.

The Tennessean reports there's an upswing in the number of developers who are tearing down older, unwanted homes in affluent subdivisions and building two new large homes that can sell for $500,000 each.

Although some longtime residents have expressed concerns, developers told the newspaper that it's the only way they can make a profit as the price of land increases. In addition, they say they are filling a demand.

Developers are taking advantage of Metro zoning codes. Property zoned as residential can accommodate duplexes though the new homes don't look like a typical duplex.

Due to codes, some of the homes are connected by breezeways or walkways while others are set a certain distance apart.
