AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

An Augusta firefighter has allegedly made an "inappropriate" Twitter comment involving a recent television rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Andre Lacey allegedly tweeted, "How you signing [sic] the anthem lookin like an illegal immigrant."

This was in response to a Hispanic boy singing the National Anthem for Game 3 of the NBC Finals dressed in a mariachi outfit.

The City of Augusta has sent the following statement to WFXG:

"The Augusta, Georgia Consolidated Government and its Fire Department are aware of the allegedly inappropriate comment made by one of its Firefighters on Twitter and are investigating the matter in accordance with its Personnel Policies and Procedures. Being that this is an ongoing investigation, Augusta, Georgia cannot comment with regard to the specifics of the incident. The Firefighter's comment, however, does not reflect the sentiments of the government. Augusta, Georgia is dedicated to the equal treatment of all and providing all public services and employment opportunities without regard to any protected category, including race, color, and national origin."
