Residents step up security as deputies search for suspected killer

Chenise Dillard armed her home security system Tuesday because there's a bullet hole and blood staining a door a few houses down from her home on Massoit Drive.

"It's a little nerve-wracking being that I have three small kids and I was thinking what happened?" said Dillard.

The Richmond County Coroner's Office says Yossarian Brooks, 40, was shot and killed just after midnight.

Investigators don't know who pulled the trigger or why and Dillard says that has her thinking about her security.

"It really does bother me, so my alarm will be set and hopefully they won't come back," she said.

Brooks' family stopped by his house on Massoit Drive but they didn't want to talk on camera.

Neighbors say he lived there with his mother and his brother.

He died at his home after he was shot twice, according to the coroner's office.

L Fri's family lived across the street from Brooks and he thinks the shooting should start important conversations.

"We just need to start telling our kids from when they're young on up that violence is not the key. We should say that guns shouldn't be used to kill people they should only be used to protect," Fri, said.

Investigators believe a man in his 30s who was driving a black Chrysler 300 in the neighborhood could be the shooter.

Deputies describe the suspect as a black male who was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans; they think he's between five feet and nine inches and six feet tall.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 706-821-1020 or 706 821-1080.
