N. Ky. volunteers take part in Afternoon of Service

NORTHERN KENTUCKY (FOX19) -

Hundreds of volunteers packed thousands of bags of potatoes for Northern Kentucky food pantries and soup kitchens on Tuesday.

"We are bagging 40,000 pounds of potatoes to distribute to food pantries all across the cities," said Paul Brunstetter, with the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church.

A total of 900 volunteers with the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church battled the heat for what's called the 'Afternoon of Service'.

However, providing potatoes to food pantries was not the only part of the event.

Several other volunteers participated in 47 service projects throughout Northern Kentucky. One of the goals of the projects is to get young people involved with the church and teach them how to serve others.

"It means a lot to me because I have seen a lot of families who are struggling to keep their family fed," said Kaylee Patton, a volunteer. "So knowing that we are doing something to give them food just feels really good."
