Tuesday morning, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, arrested Elias Acevedo on the 2300 Block of Seymour Avenue in Cleveland.

Acevedo was convicted of sexual battery in August of 2003 and as a result of his conviction, he was required to register as a convicted sex offender.

On May 28, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Acevedo for failure to provide notice of change of address.

Then on June 6, Acevedo was indicted on a Cleveland Police rape cold case from 1993.  The Cleveland Police were able to identify Acevedo as the suspect of the 1993 rape due to the modern advances in DNA research. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) used the forensic evidence from the 1993 investigation to identify Acevedo as a suspect.

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office contacted the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force asking for assistance in locating and apprehending Acevedo. Members of the Task Force tracked Acevedo down to a family member's residence located on the 2300 Block of Seymour Avenue, where he was arrested and transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, "The citizens of Seymour Avenue witnessed the arrest of another sexual predator with a violent history of preying on women. We made all of our resources available when it was revealed that Acevedo was in the area. Thanks to the cooperation of Sheriff Frank Bova and the numerous law enforcement agencies within the Task Force, a Rape suspect who eluded capture for nearly 20 years can now be brought to justice."
