PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Hundreds came out to Chase Field Sunday afternoon with their canine pals in tow to benefit homeless animals.

The day was full of dog-friendly events, including a "Puppy Rally" pre-game, a vendor fair and a parade around the outfield. Pancho, a Dachshund up for adoption, started the game with the ceremonial "first-fetch."

The Arizona Humane Society puts on this yearly event to help raise money for programs and services that help homeless animals up for adoption. For every pet ticket purchased, $5 is donated to the cause. This year, the Humane Society brought with them three dogs up for adoption by fans.

Dogs and owners alike enjoyed all the pet-friendly festivities. It was Sue Jostice and her dog Ella's first time at Bark in the Park. "It's kind of nifty to bring them out and let them hob-nob with their other K-9 friends and fans," she said.

This weekend's event occurred as temperatures reached the triple digits. The heat is not only a concern for humans, but pets as well.

"They cannot walk on the pavement this time of the year, it is going to burn their feet," Bretta Nelson with the Arizona Humane Society reminds pet owners. She also urges owners to not leave their pets in hot vehicles and to make sure that they have plenty of water.

This year's event was another great success with a total sellout on pet tickets.
