OSU president Gordon Gee to retire July 1 amid controversy

COLUMBUS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ohio State University President Gordon Gee will retire effective July 1, a spokesperson in his office says.

Gee has been under fire recently after comments he made about the University of Notre Dame and Catholics during a meeting late last year were made public.

Gee joked that "those damn Catholics" can't be trusted, according to a recording of the meeting. The comments were made in the context of a conversation about why the University of Notre Dame was not invited to join the BIG 10 Conference, of which Ohio State has long been a member.
