Arizona Marine saves lives after his death

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

He put his life on the line fighting for his country, but it was a freak accident at his Phoenix home that claimed the life of one U.S. Marine this week.

Sgt. Brad Piccirillo served two tours in Iraq, and when he came back he pursued a career as a stand-up comedian and actor.

He made appearances at the Valley's Comedy Stop and had a show on Cox Cable called, The Stem Journals.

Piccirillo also starred in a new movie titled True Love.

However, his dream of going to Hollywood and making it big came to a tragic end this week when Piccirillo died after being crushed by a car he was working on in his driveway.

"I don't want to look at it as unfair," said Brad's mother, Terri Piccirillo. "I'm just really, really sad because he's not here to be with us."

Friends and loved ones gathered outside the family's Phoenix home Thursday to celebrate the life of a man who always put others first.

His faith and big sense of humor were contagious, his brothers said.

Even in death, Brad Piccirillo, 29, found a way to make a difference.

While he was on life support this week, six of his organs were donated to patients with serious health problems.

"It's typical Brad, to go out with a freak accident, but save four people's lives in the process," said his brother Jeremy Piccirillo.  "My dad coined a term, 'two-fer,' think of others first. He lived that to the T, every day."

Family members told CBS 5 News that Brad Piccirillo enlisted after 9/11, then volunteered for a second tour of duty because he didn't want other guys in his unit with wives and children to have to go back.

And when he came back, it was all about making people laugh and spending time with family, his sister Andrea Piccirillo said.

"A gift that he has given me, is to find joy every day and not worry about all the other stuff," she said. "Just enjoy every day, and your family and loved ones ."

A special service to celebrate Brad Piccirillo's life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Living Streams Church, located at 7000 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.

A memorial fund has been set up to help the family with expenses.
